Assignment 4: Multimedia Design Group Project Proposal

Lesson Design Planning Template

Big Idea   What is the big idea that the learner will walk away with at the end of the lesson that is critical for learners at this stage of their learning path? Learning Outcome(s)What specific things will the learner know or be able to do by the end of the lesson? Evidence of LearningWhat does learning look like for this objective? (e.g., accurate performance of a task, correct use of terminology)AssessmentsWhat will learners do to provide evidence of their learning? (e.g., a presentation, a test, a project)Learning ActivitiesWhat learning activities will allow learners to acquire and practice the skills necessary to demonstrate their learning and complete the assessment successfully?
– As a novice, how to properly support your cat adapt to a new environment.- The correct way to handle an emergency situation when you encounter your cat.By the end of the lesson, learners will be able to: know what to do (prepare) before/when the cat gets in a new place precautions for raising cats. To know how to take care of a cat in the right way. How to properly select items that are good for cats, such as cat food, things that are harmful to the cat’s health, how to take care of the cat, what some of the cat’s behaviors and reactions mean, etc.For those who are planning or already planning to get a cat, they can use this blog to know how to help their cat get acquainted with its surroundings when it is in a new environment.Hands-on practice allows you to learn about the habits of cats and how to deal with some common problems of cats.

Description of the outline:

The project is to develop a learning lesson for new cat owners to correctly manage raising your cat. Learners will be given instructions at first with the basic knowledge and are going to need to perform hands- on activities that stimulate their learning process. The lesson is a series of step by step instruction that involves acquiring knowledge, and interactive experience type learning to have the learners experience both instructive and experiential learning that learners will need to interact with the hands-on learning activities to adopt new skills suitable for raising a cat. The lesson consists of learners learning it by themselves or better with a cat in their hand since some activities might be experimental and are better if you have a cat around. At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to get an idea of the daily living habits of cats and how to deal with problems that a cat can face on a daily basis. We will provide a detailed explanation and introduction of the process and precautions for new cat owners in the form of a powerpoint. We will include some assessments and related videos to support the teaching. A discussion group (such as Mattermost) will be created and students will be asked to post blogs about their learning at regular intervals for students to ask questions, communicate and give feedback. In addition, subsequent tasks will be participated by all the group members together, distributing their parts in a reasonable way.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this content, learners should be able to do the following:

  • Familiarize the five stages of cat ownership
  • Understand the basic skills needed to own a cat
  • Learn how to deal with cats on a daily basis
  • Discover what to do with your cat during special times like worming and vaccination

Introduction:

This project is to develop a learning lesson for new cat owners to correctly manage raising your cat. Learners will be given instructions at first with the basic knowledge and are going to need to perform hands-on activities that stimulate their learning process. The learners will need to interact with the hands-on learning activities to adopt new skills suitable for raising a cat, to have the learners experience both instructive and experiential learning. The lesson consists of learners learning it by themselves or better with a cat in their hand since some activities might be experimental and are better if you have a cat around. Let’s get started then!

1. Necessary items to prepare before picking up the cat

The first thing to do with a new cat arriving home is getting home set up. A brand new environment for cats means a safe home, especially when on the first visiting home. So, to help get cats feeling better in a brand new home, here are the things that we have to prepare first:

  • Food: some cats food, cats snacks, water

There are many options for cat food, depending on different brands with different prices. With cat food, you could buy a food bowl for cats or it could be your used plate based on your budget, also a water bowl is necessary.  For rewards, you can prepare some cat treats, which could be super attractive to cats, and it helps calm them down and get used to a new environment. It also could be a small piece of cooked beef, chicken or fish, or cat snacks.

  • Cat litter box

Cats need to urinate, as a member of your family, a bathroom is also necessary. If your cat is normally at home, cat litter could be recommended. Cats are clean, they would cover their poops with cat litter, all you need to do is replace with new litter once in a while, depends on how much your cat costs.

  • Bed:cushy bed

For better sleeping, a warm and soft bed is recommended. It could be a used pillow or hand made bed, as long as your cat feel safe and comfortable in it.

  • Cleaning tools: Cat litter scoop, grooming brush, toothbrush (not a necessity for a kitten), nail clipper

To keep your cat clean, you may need kits for a safer environment, some cats could be sensitive to environment, so it is also a good thing to keep your cat clean.

  • Entertainment: toys

For entertainment, you could choose whatever that might attract cats attention. A laser pen with red dots will be attractive to most of cats, they can not help chasing it, so have fun with little toys with your cats.

2. What you need to do on the first day when your cat arrive home

When you bring your cat home on the first day, they are easily stressed because it is a completely new environment for them. Therefore, owners need to pay attention to many things.

First of all, they will feel more secure by bringing them home in a cat carrier. According to each cat’s different personality to determine what kind of environment they need, for example, a shy cat will need a quieter room. Be careful not to force the cat to come out, open the cat cage and let them come out by themselves. Prepare the items needed for the cat in the room, such as litter box, cat food, water, cat bed, blankets, toys, etc.

Get along with the cats according to their behavior. If the cat hides or does not want to contact with you, please give them more time and prepare a hiding place for them. If the cat is willing to spend time with you, you can try to make contact with them and open the door to introduce them to their new home. Also, remember to put away any plants, decorations, etc. that are dangerous or harmful to the cat, and keep the doors and windows closed. Please do not be anxious and let the cat have enough time to adapt to the new environment by itself.

BATTERSEA is a website for dogs and cats where you can find many information related to cat raising. Below are articles and videos from BATTERSEA on how to set up a room on the first day your cat arrives home, with more detailed information on what to look for and how to handle different situations.

3. The daily routine of cat ownership  (PPT LINK: Zhuoheng Liu’s PPT )

After the initial acclimation period, cats are mostly alone in their owners’ homes during the day. A cat’s daily activities include sleeping, eating, drinking and playing. Cats spend the majority of their time sleeping, but they also need to play and exercise a lot to maintain their physical and mental health. Cats prefer consistent feeding times and can occasionally become restless if they don’t receive food or attention when they anticipate it. By establishing a healthy and appropriate routine for your cat, the cat can thrive while growing into becoming a reliable companion.

Things to do every day:

  1. Feed: clean your cat’s dishes, then add food and clean water
  2. Clean the cat toilet: pay attention to whether the feces are normal
  3. Play: half an hour every day
  4. Groom: once a day
  5. Observe: observe your cat to see if there is any abnormality, such as eyes, ears, nose, chin and mental state
  6. Snack reward: give your cat a treat

In addition, here is a PowerPoint presentation on how to pet a cat, so that the viewer can learn how to approach and touch almost any cat without stressing the cat animal out.

4. Precautions

  • Clean the litter tray: observe the colour and shape of the poo in order to understand the cat’s health problems. In this video, Dr. Sarah Wooten  shares tips for understanding the color, shape, and consistency of your cat’s poop.

  • Grooming: Cats like to lick their hair to clean themselves up. If they are not groomed, their intestines will not be able to digest the hair over time and they will be prone to hairballs, so make sure they are groomed daily.
  •  Change the water/food regularly: you can change the water and food once a day to reduce bacterial growth.
  •  Nail cutting: Cut your cat’s nails once every half month to avoid their nails being too long and scratching others, but be careful not to cut into the blood and flesh of your cat’s nails.

  • Bathing: Cats should not be bathed when they first arrive in a new environment and are prone to severe stress reactions. In fact, cats do not need both, they have a strong self-cleaning ability and the cat will clean itself by licking its hair.

In this video, Dr.Sarah Wooten talked about “Should you bathe your cat”. You can find out from this video whether or not cats should be bathed, which situations necessitate a bath, and how to pull off a successful cat bath.

  • Safety:

1. If you live in an apartment or house, please make sure that the windows of your home are closed or screened when open. To prevent your cat from accidentally falling in while playing near the window or sneaking out without the owner knowing, make sure to double check the security of the window. Cats are very smart, don’t let them see how you open the window, otherwise some cats will secretly open the window and sneak out.

2. There are many plants and human food that are toxic to cats and can cause death in severe cases, for example lilies are extremely toxic to cats and can cause acute renal failure. These human snacks are toxic to cats, and make sure you store these foods not meant for your cat in a place they can’t get to them:

  • Chocolate
  • Grapes and raisins
  • Onions and garlic
  • Macadamia nuts
  • Bread dough
  • Alcohol
  • Xylitol, an artificial sweetener found in sugar-free gum and candy

In addition, cats like to play with string, such as wires and wool. but they can easily accidentally eat them while playing, so owners should be careful to avoid accidental swallowing while they are playing.

5. Worming and vaccination issues

In this section, we will walk through how to deal with regular infections and how to vaccinate and prevent diseases for cat.

worming precautions

Having worms is a normal phenomenon for pets, the three most common worms are roundworm, hookworm, and tapeworm.

  • roundworms: Most common ones in kittens at a young age (before 8 weeks)
  • hookworms: not as common as roundworms, and a cat can be infected by hookworm by eating eggs.
  • tapeworms: most often transmitted to cats by fleas and eating things with tapeworm egg on it, for example rats and mice, are usually for older cats.

Vaccinations procedures

vaccines helps to protect cats from different diseases it will face in its periods of growth. Thus knowing when and what to vaccinate are really important. There are two basic types of vaccines for cats, which are FVRCP and rabies.

FVRCP vaccines and rabies are the two most common cat vaccines. FVRCP vaccines provide essential problems a cat needs to face all the common diseases it would have during its growth period, rabies are too common in mammals so some states in US even have laws to force owners to have rabies on their cats.

The kitten vaccination schedule usually contains about three visits, each visit has its own different purposes.

First visit is to examine the nutrition and grooming, the second visit is mainly for examination of parasites, the third visit is for rabies, with all three visits containing one or more doses of essential vaccines for the cat.

Here is a link to my powerpoint with a description of the procedures for worming and vaccination in detail along with some visuals –

Conclusion ( With theories and principles) :

Reflection

In developing the lesson for new cat owners to correctly manage raising your cat, we applied and connected some theories and principles in different phases.

Phase 1

For introducing preparation before picking up, segmenting principle has been followed. We put preparation into different parts including food, bed, cleaning, etc. It would give audiences time to process and store content by having little breaks, which are images of cat interactions mostly. Also, since images have been largely covered through all the introductions, multimedia principle has always been kept too, it gives text and image in presentation but not in text only.

Phase 2

We used the Signaling Principle by bolding the key information to emphasize what the owner needs to pay special attention to on the first day the cat comes to its new home.

Phase 3

In the PowerPoint “how to pet a cat”, we used Cognitive load theory (remain only 1 idea per slide and put no more than 6 objects per slide), Segmenting Principle (keep it short), Redundancy principle (don’t read the text of the slide and remove the draft below), Signaling principle (add visual elements), and coherence principles (focus on learning outcomes).

Phase 4

In the infographic “how to cut a cat’s nail in the right way”, we used the redundancy principle, Coherence principle and Contiguity principle of Mayer’s Principles.

Phase 5

We used the continuity principles to help the ready to enhance their knowledge by putting relevant pictures beside the point. For example, I put the pictures of the different types of worms cats might get each beside the name of these worms.

Moreover, we made use of PowerPoint, infographics, and other multimedia to guarantee that our learning objectives were achieved. We hope that the learners of this course can learn with a cat, take the initiative to learn at different stages, and become qualified cat owners.

week 12 reflection

  • When you used the AI games this week, such as Magic Sketch or AI Duet, how did you find the process of having your work completed by an algorithm? Did it feel true to your intention? Were you happy with the results?

yes, it felt like i was directig the whole things as I mapped my project out, however, each programs gave me different feelings in term’s of process, it each had the distinctive features that made me felt like completing my project thru them differently.

  • Have you used Duolingo? Do you think that their approach to AI will ultimately lead to better learning? What do you think of the author’s use of the word ‘humanize’ to describe the application of AI to their software? Do you think the fact that the training data used is largely from English language learners will impact the user experience for other languages?

I personally am not a big fan of using doulingo, you can never be as casual as a person next to you, As a second language learner, i think it is to best learn language by natural means, having natural interactions are the best, for exmaple when you learn from daily life like watching movie and TV or talking to someone, these are also natural interactions inspired learning when you watch how humans speak and interpret stuff, one word and sentence can have so many different meanings depending on how you interpret it in different situations, machines can never be so interpretive as the human emotions, it is best to be humanize the learning situation in order to learn language to deepen understandings of languages to be used in different set of distinct situations.

  • Have you used a tool like Khan Academy that creates a learning path for you? Did you find it to be useful or a hindrance to your learning? Or both?

yes, sometimes when i don’t understand things in class i would go to Khan academy for help, these channels allows me to go thru stuff slowly and pause at my own pace, i do not have it create learning path for me but rather i have my own learning path and integrate it as a help of mine. I personally am not a big fan on using programs to lead my learning path since I know my strength and weaknesses in what i want to learn and how i can tackle a material in terms of learning, therefore I feel like it is best to have plan it out myself rather than being directed by AI algorithms, that being said, it can definitely be a helpful tool to aid my learning process nonetheless.

EDCI blog: week 11 reflections

  • Looking at one of the learning games links provided this week, or another example you’re familiar with, (e.g., Minecraft for Education), describe the elements of the activity that show that it’s part of a game. Which element do you think is the most effective in terms of adding engagement?

the activity that shows it is part of the game is that it allows you to have control over alot of the element of the learning process, you are able to participate and control the settings in your own will, rather than being forced to completely follow a script of learning pattern. For example, in a story setting you are given choice to choose what steps to take as the main character as each step would lead you to different result, it makes you feel involved into the process that your are interactive rather than fully following a set of lesson.

  • Which of the trends identified is in keeping with your own experience of multimedia learning and which are not? Is there a trend that is missing from this list in your experience? Which of these trends do you think will have the biggest impact on learning in the next two years? Which do you think will still be around in ten years?

interms of trends of learning, i think the biggest we have all experianced was the flexible learning environment/hybrid learning spaced, especially with covid-19, a bunch of schools started doing this due to protocals of covid. This is definitely one that is going to have the biggest impract in the next twos years because schools many shools have been spending time to develope and furnish this mode into their mean learning mode for the past two years.

  • Historia, the example of game-based learning in this week’s Read/Watch list is relatively low tech – how would you use multimedia tools and content to support and enhance the active learning? What would it allow them to do that they’re not doing right now?

Multimedia is definitely a great way to get the kid to be enhanced in thier learning without them being bored, with reference to this week’s blog by jennifer Gonzelez, I have learned that Kid does not simply learn by reading and reflecting, they have to be engaged in some sort of activity and get the knwolegde to embedd within thier memory. Multimedia can do just that, You can either have them interact with multimedia by setting up gaming activity or any other interactive activity that have them go thru a process of something other than reading to the text itself. Best to be some sort of video that promote activities.

  • In the reading, Students Need to DO Something, do any of the author’s experiences with passive learning in K-12 classrooms resonate with your own? Why do you think active learning is not more prevalent in K-12? Have you tried using any of these activities in a classroom? Which one looks most appealing to you?

It definitely does, as i was a kid with ADHD, I could never focus in class doing normal readings, What i did learn the best was from my grandma and gradpa, they would tell me to do math problems with them and race to see who got first in the math problems, if i win i’d get to buy something, and that was something passvie motivating me like i was playing a game with them, and in that semester my math skill grew so much and that I had the higest score on my grade in one of the math contest we did. I could say that i have never really learned much from class since it was just doing some questions. Therefore I could defintely resonate with the author in “Students Needs to DO something”.

The multimedia that i would like to use is the picture of the representation of social residual that respresent my social media activity which i have created in another class. The picture demonstrates my relationship with social media and shows how much of time i spent on it. The purpose was to demonstrate the relationship of the user and the internet and help user to identify what type of internet user they are.

First change I would like to make is based on Mayer’s principle I would like to make my visual more colourful since too monotonous of a visual could be boring to watch. Then when I have color i would only stick to using no more than three types of total shape to represent social media and avoide too much unessary shaping all around the place and cause confusion. This way it’ll be neat and colourful(coherence). I have also grouped social medias with similar usage the same color, for example uvic webmail and EDCI blog are all coloured yellow since they are for purely school learning purpose. All the comprehensive google company apps are colored red. This way it helps viewers to separate and identify what different types of social media out there are for(signaling principle)

At last I would like to ask them a question for interactive learning about what do they see with the coloring of the different social medias, what pattern do they see? this is for them to interact with the visual and identify the differences between the social media by themself.

week 6 blog reflections

Describe a meaningful learning experience that started with a story. What made it impactful for you? Did you recognize any of the storytelling techniques reviewed this week?

I remember in hisotry class back in elementary school, when i was in China, the teacher taught us the fascinating story about chinese history and how a boy who were born a beggar overcame his adversity to become the founder emperor of Ming dynasty, this got me interested in that character and make me weel enegaged thru learning aout the history of Ming dynasty.

In the reading this week, 7 Storytelling Techniques Used by the Most Inspiring TED Presenters, which of the presenters did you find most compelling? What technique(s) did you recognize in their talk?

The presenter that I found most compelling was Leslie Morgan Steiner, she showed her personal story and guided the audiences thru that story to create some level of resonance that we are all part of the audiences that one day might experiance similar situations around us. she also tried to put us thru her personal perspective by giving us the what if’s if we were in that situation, to think and consider the circumstances so that we could be in her shoes or at least understand her.

What storytelling techniques have you used instinctively and which ones require more work for you? Which techniques will you focus on moving forward?

I will definetely try to take people into my perspective by first creating a personal story, I believe that people are good resoners and would want to listen to the stroy or experiances of others, therefore taking them thru a first personal view of things are able to get you involved into thinking thru your perspective and possibly put them into your shoes to experiance the same emotions as you would experianced it.

Another technique i would like to use is to create suspense, since suspense will want people to follow up the story more, and thus this would let them pay attention, if people think the learning is boring and do not want to follow up they would not pay attention thus it would affect the learning outcome, therefore creating suspense would get them to pay more attention and thus improve the learning outcome.

EDCI Blogweek 5 reflections

As always, these questions are intended as an inspiration to your blogs, not a prescription. So use one of the questions if it sparks ideas or choose your own reflection on this week’s topic.

How does your experience with in-game learning supports compare to the study in the readings this week? Which principles (Mayer’s and Merrill’s) seem to be commonly applied in in-game support and which ones are often missed in your experience?

In game learning has really provided us with the experiance of process focuesed learning with the end goal in mind rather than learning for the sake of satisfying something, by that we mean participating in something meaningful and learning in the process of doing so. According to Mayer’s principle, in game learning provides other interactive source such as pictures or animations that will have the learner interact with other sources upon their learning interaction. upon playiner game, student learn how to solve probems with the learning game’s end goal in mind, which can be referenced to merrill’s principle of problem centric and application.

What authentic problem would you use to design a lesson using Merrill’s principles? What media or multimedia (interactive or not) would you create to support it?

I would let them interact with any source of media, for example, create a media that is reflective of our learning materials, and have them watch it and reflect it toward their own life experiance synthesizing with the learning we have. Or use a learning goal focues approach to educate student first and then let student find their own media materials that correspond to the learning and have them answear why these ones are approporiate to be chosen.

Where do you see constructive alignment and backward design used in this course or another course you are taking/have taken? Is there anywhere where it seems to be missing?

constructive alignment comes from the outlines we have and the assignment we need to complete. We are given the learning goals of the course and what we should do thru the outlines and the assignment we have to do constructively to complete the course. The course forms objectives which translate to learning goals and then give assessments based on it. asseseements are also long term building blocks for the big learning goals we have in the future. I do not see much missing from this course, i belive the learning process and the the asessment of the course are all well comprehensed in coming togeather to form a good constructive alignment example with some good usage of backward design in it.

EDCI Blog: week 4 reflection

What did you find when you ran the WAVE accessibility report on your blog post(s)? What did you expect and what was surprising? Is there anything you will do differently going forward?

I did a wave accessibility report on my last blog, it mentioned that I have a lot of structural point that can be improved, how I lead my text and my paragraphs could be further improved by sorting out information from main to minor ones. In places where I need to put links, in some places links are encouraged, And I had one redundant link. I will try to see if there are redundant links that I need to take out in the future, and further check if there are places where I can sort out ideas that are too small and scattered around. I will group these small scattered ideas under their corresponding main ideas to become better organized. To try to make structures clear, I will bold the questions this time.

Have you used Text to Speech tools before? Did you find it useful? Did you try out some of the different voices? What impact did the different voices have on your ability to absorb information?

yes, I did when I was studying for my final exam. I personally found it to be very useful. I was able to relax and just listen since sometimes after long period of studying my mind is exhausting and that exhaustion can definitely go to your vision as well. listening to stuff allows me to really close my eyes and relax to give my vision a total break while learning the context. And thus I was able to absorb information without being in a continuous state of fatigue after already using my eyes for so long.

What role do you think media and multimedia can play in a learning environment designed with UDL guidelines in mind? Which of the promising practices for text, images and video are in alignment with these guidelines?

definitely it promotes learning capability for people in all age groups, since in the digital era, a lot of the learning is done thru media and multimedia, especially post covid era where so many things have been shifted remotely to learn online, therefore presenting UDL learning guidelines thru multimedia is very important. It is especially useful because its guidelines for diverse learning can be amplified in multimedia because of the diverse technological tools multimedia has to optimally improve the learning environment.

What does inclusive design mean to you?

it means that designing to not only learn for the traditional way for targeted audiences, but consider diverse groups of people with different disabilities, and it is important to know that in creating learning platform we shouldn’t assume a standard version of normality, everyone is different and some learn slower and not so direct as others, we should aim for a learning program that take in consideration for all of the types of people with different learning capacities.

EDCI blog: week 3 reflection

  • Provide an example of a multimedia learning principle you have intuitively followed in the past, and an example of a multimedia learning principle you have broken in the past. What will you do differently now?

an example that I have always followed in the past is the segmenting principle, I have always kind of know that if you throw out a big information bomb to the learner it is always going to be hard for them to take, I personally get confused and disoriented when that happened. I would usually break things down and give them a direction into what is going to be happening before getting in the details.

  • What did you notice about your learning when you listened to the Soundcloud by Howat? How was it different from reading an article?

It was more relaxing for me since I didn’t really need anything to visually pay attention on, and sometimes when I do visually pay attention, I get overwhelmed and don’t know where to start thinking that I have to go thru all these information. By listening to him I would know to get in rhythm according to him so I don’t have to worry about being overwhelmed by all the info’s that are complexed and I know I just have to wait there and let it come to me. This is making me passive but in a good way that I am relaxed when I am receiving information without being stressed and don’t know where to start.

  • How did sketchnoting change your ability to recall the information you were documenting? What principle(s) from Mayer’s theory do you think are at work here? How would you incorporate it into a learning activity?

Sketchnoting create a unique way for me to link my thought to the stuff that I Sketched. Since when I was just taking note, they are just words that i never attached any meanings into it, but in the process of sketchnoting I create my own image unique to my understanding and thus when I see it I would know the meanings I attached to it and thus it would be easier for me to understand. therefore, each information I saw have been referenced to a unique way. Mayer’s multimedia principles are used in this way, since people learn better from visuals and words not just words alone, sketchnoting definitely provides good visuals for learners to incorporate their learning information. Also Mayer’s personalization principles are also applied to it, you are personalizing sketching’s to the best of your availability to understand it so it makes it easier to just understand dead notes that are written in the lectures. To incorporate it, you can sketch things when information load is too high and there are too many words to take down, by sketching things down to create your own meanings will make it easier for you and decrease the amount of word you might have to jot down in your note.

EDCI blog: week2 reflection

Of all the principles of Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning we looked at this week, which seem intuitive to you?

The extraneous load due to redundancy seems the most intuitive to me since as a learner myself I have experienced getting confused over a video and find it hard to follow up. Sometimes I would try to follow up with the video but end up finding it extremely messy and hard to follow with no clues of anything that’s ever going on because I am overwhelmed with all the information design that do not give me any clue of the topic, I wished that it was more ‘clean’ and straight on the point. There, looking at the redundancy principle I instantly realized why I was confused so much and what these videos needed to do better. It is very important to not mislead and overwhelm the learner with extra load of unneeded information

Which ones surprised you the most?

the contiguity principle definitely surprised me because I always thought we need to separate pictures and words and not make it cram together which could be considered a bad design instead of making things spaced out evenly.

Which principles did you have in mind when you were creating your screencast this week?

definitely redundancy principle since it hit me the most, even before this lesson i kind of know a little bit of not putting too much stuff anywhere, after this lesson it had confirmed me that I should not add unnecessary text or put repeat information. Another is contiguity since I realized I never payed any attention toward that area of layout. these two principles would help to ensure that the video you make is clear and precise.

Choose one of the Read/Watch resources this week and compare it to the principles we’ve learned this week. What principle(s) does it exemplify?

take screen casting website for example, it gave resourceful information and guidance, however it is overwhelming in that the load is too much, extraneous load is getting overwhelming, after all the introductions of how to use it, student should be able to get a good idea of how things are working and the website should let it sink in, however it pushes too much by giving a full list of 24 things we should do after the basic tutorial which could be messy to handle for new learner since it is too much information. with reference to Sweller’s Cognitive Load Theory about limited capacities, we can say that at the introductory phase of learning something, try not overwhelm the learners as their capacities are limited.

An example of interactive media would be twitter, youtube, or instagram.

here is an example of youtube video, it is about AL resotred video on old china in the early 20th century. It restores the black and white videos with color so people can see it more clearly and give them a new impression of how things were like back then. The interactive part is that people can share their thought under the video and comment on each other’s though about their impressions and the informations that they know.

it is an example of multimedia because youtube allows images or videos to be shown with audio, and there are words and texts that can be displayed in front of those images and audio.

it is both an interactive media and multimedia, therefore, it is an interactive multimedia.

I am taking this course because i have previously taken edci 335 and 339 and i found myself liking it alot and feel like i wanted take curriulum and instruction as a skill to learn because sometimes in the future i might be teaching certain things to someone. In both courses, i found the activities very engaging and fun to work with, you are able to learn alot thru it and actuall minic being an instructor and teacher creating the learning process for the people that are targeted, it makes you feel powerful in a way that you are helping people out in a smart and effective way. I expect edci 337 to give me that same or similar experiance in doing so. Other edci not only contains exams and fixed knowledge, but rather create our own learning feed and generate different format of learning content for assement which was fun for me and not one dimentional. also lot of the things were interactive with other classmate, that i’ve found it fun as well.
